The South Korean modern masterpiece Failan is being remade as an American movie. This is a terrible thing ... the original was pretty perfect and a remake can add nothing.
The man behind this evil is Vadim Perelman, who once brought us the stellar House of Sand and Fog, but is current in theaters with wet blanket The Life Before Her Eyes.
Looking at the IMDB message board for the movie, I am glad someone agrees. Best comment is "DONT DO THIS YOU F++CKING C*(*+S!"

a little too aware & a little too cynical.
I work in film, so am fully aware of the number of people, the length of time, the amount of sweat, tears and oftentimes blood that goes into making a movie. No matter how bad a movie, there are hundreds of people that worked incredibly hard and did a perfectly fine job.
I, however, do not feel that this excuses me whatsoever from fulfilling my duty as a cinephile to mock the utter shite that Hollywood produces, as well as the ridiculous, egotistical people that populate it.
I used to write a movie news column and with a few sidekicks, this is the blog continuation of it.

Some idiots are also doing the same thing to recent low-budget/low-profile French/Romanian horror 'ILS' (Them) - soon to be released as The Strangers starring Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman. This is a shame as 'Ils' was properly scary and unsettling, and while I have yet to see The Strangers, I'm pretty sure the only scary thing about it will be Liv Tyler's acting.
Truly, there is nothing new under the sun.
